Pregnancy: a tough transition
Pregnancy is possibly one of the toughest transitions that life presents us, for first time mothers it is when we change from being young women into mothers. Sounds obvious, even sounds simple, but it is a massive change that occurs over a relatively short period of time.
When my baby was just a few months old it occurred to me that a year ago he was just dividing cells. At one month old still reveling in the glow of motherhood the realisation was even more astounding, because a year before that he wasn’t even thought of. Yet there he was, this whole person, with a spirit so powerful it shook my world.
I can remember during my nursing studies being a little blown away at the idea that a woman’s breasts finish developing during pregnancy, so as a woman that had never had a baby at the time I realised I wasn’t finished developing. It was a bizarre thought for a 20 year old.
With all this in mind it is a little unsurprising that pregnancy is so tough both physically and emotionally, but it is a journey worth taking for the final reward.
Amen to that!
